Hi,

I planted 8 6' arborvitaes in my yard. They were gorgeous, but I have a lot of clay and rocks in my soil. When I planted them,(two weeks ago) the really hot weather had passed and I put peat moss in the holes. They are turning a little brown here and there, do you think they are too wet? I water them every other day. Should I dig down and if they are really wet, add some more peat moss? or sprinkle some around the top?

Yes, they may be receiving too much water right now. Peat moss will actually retain water. If you mixed the peat moss with the back fill material that is better than using only peat moss. Also clay soils do not drain as well as other types of soils.

Some needle loss would be expected on recently transplanted evergreens as they begin to adjust and recover.
