I have 12 mature arbs, 20 years old or so and 14 feet tall, a beautiful natural wall around my patio. its October now and they are all turning brown on the inside. The outside looks normal and green but the inner layers are brown, fall off when I look into the shrub. Should I be worried they are dying?

interior needle loss on all evergreens is expected at some point in the season, usually late summer or early fall. the interior needles are not as productive as the new season growth and the plant will remove any valuable elements, minerals, etc. and move them into new areas of growth.

Be sure they are well watered as winter approaches.
