I have a calandiva, I was reading on how to take care of it. I was wondering what does it mean to cut off "spent blooms"?

Cutting off spent blooms means that once the flowers are finished and have faded/turned brown, they are cut off. The rest of the plant can still be enjoyed as a foliage plant.
