I have been reading your replies and has been very helpful but I need help. My husband trimmed my shrubs and now all green is gone and all I see are brown twigs, should I cut them off, is the shrub dead?

Plants can be surprising resilient. Without knowing more details, plants will generate new buds on old wood in many cases and your green returns. Plants likely to recover are those that were healthy before being pruned heavily. Weak and stressed plants may lack the reserves to grow back very well.
