Circles around trees

I have 4 pecan trees with 3 having dead circles around them. The circles are 10-15 feet away from the tree trunk and 1-2 feet wide (according to tree size). Nothing can live in the circle area. The area between the circle and the tree trunk is green. The grass is centipede. Thanks, WL McCabe Jr

Your question has come up just last year too. Centipede grass can suffer from as our grasses in N. Illnois do from Fairy Ring. It has slightly different symptoms in that the rings are often several feet deep and large in size and with time can become somewhat bare. This should be confirmed through a plant clinic through your State University. There were not many good viable solutions to restore the lawns that I was able to research last year. perhaps your local extension service will have more viable options.
