loss of trees

I recently lost 2 trees in my yard. No apparent infestation. 1 was a weeping willow and 1 a corkscrew willow. They leafed out as usual but then the leaves turned yellow very early, fell off, and they never leafed again. I now have a river birch that is doing the same thing. Some of the leaves are already turning yellow and falling off. What could be the problem?

River Birch will frequently drop leaves as a response to available soil moisture or other environmental conditions. It is the plants way of balancing the amount of leaves the roots can support given the available soil moisture. Once adequate moisture is again available, you should see new leaves produced.
