Hi, I recently planted 5ft arborvitae plants around my house few months ago. Now I'm noticing some brown spots appearing on the plant. If I touch th dry spots with my hands, the leafs being to fall down. Is my tree dying?

Also, how much should I water these plants?

Lastly, should I use a fertilizer and when?

Thank you!

Normally during the first year of being transplanted, water is the only thing a plant needs as it rebuilds it's root system. All evergreens are alive 24/7 365 and need an even amount of soil moisture. When you do water, be sure the area that contains the roots get adequate moisture. Soils in a container grown plant will dry out much quicker than the surrounding soil. Balled and burlapped plants have heavier soil and retain soil moisture longer. Once plants have established in 2-3 years, a fertilizer can be added to your maintenance along the the watering. There is no set schedule or amount of water. It is all weather and exposure dependent. Plants in the sun will need more water more often.
