Is it OK to move a hollyhock now, Aug.2? I just put it in this year when there was no surrounding growth, now the dahlias are starting to grow & shade them, so I know they are not getting the proper sun. Are you supposed to prune or cut back the blossoms? deadhead?

This would not be the time to move a hollyhock. Generally, it would be in the spring just before, or as the new growth is starting. Once they are done flowering, the seed stalk should be cut off. However, some gardeners let them go to seed so they can spread.
