Burning Bush and Boxwood

Twenty-five years ago I planted two Boxwood separated by a Burning Bush. Three years ago Boxwood on North side of row turned brown and died. After roots rotted we pulled it completely out. Next to it is a Burning Bush that is wilting and dying. This summer I have been spraying with a fungi solution and insect spray and cleared base and tree of dead leaves. The leaves aren't dying but they are still wilted. Will it do any good to cut out dead branches? Now or after frost?

You can remove dead wood at any time as it is no longer productive to the plants health. You have had a very long run with these shrubs and they may be declining from age and nothing more. Wilting leaves in the middle of the summer may indicate just a lack of water or a problem with the roots or crown of the plant. Burning Bush is a favorite of rabbits so there could be physical damage. fior a more focus response, call your local Extension Office to find out if there is a local problem.
