I was a MG there for five years while I lived in Illinois. Now I am a resident of Tucson and am a member of a landscape committee. I trust the information from this source so that is why I am e-mailing. I need to know if the underground root system of a DESERT WILLOW tree is a large one. And if the stump and ground roots are ground will suckers still grow. I hope you can help me in this issue. Many thanks and happy gardening to all!!!!

I would not expect the root system to be overly large as the tree itself is not. i did not find anything in literature discussing re sprounting from roots. If properly ground out, there might be an occasional root in a postion to generate a sprout. Desert Willow has some very interesting history for uses, including some medicinal. You should be able to get more information from: http://npsot.org/wp/boerne/files/2011/12/desert-willow-NICE.pdf and https://extension.arizona.edu/
