Grapes and Chemicals

I will be starting new grape vines on the perimeter of our yard this spring. We have corn/soybean fields around us. Do I need to worry about the farm chemicals harming the vines? I am planning to plant Buffalo and Baco Noir grapes.

Grapes are very sensitive to phenoxy compounds, active ingredients in many broad leaved weed control products used in the home landscape and agriculture. These products would generally be used in corn production and for controlling broad leaved weeds in the lawn. Just a few parts per million in the air can cause distortion of the leaves and any tender tissue. Suggest you alert the farmer of your intentions so he can properly inform the custom applicator if he uses one.
