I have had a lipstick plant for about 10 years. It produces lots of red flowers several times a year. Recently it produced a round pink ball about 1/4" in diameter. It never did that before. What is it?

While it does not happen often, you may have had a flower pollinated and what you are seeing is a seed forming or more likely the plant generated a flower that genetically is flawed. It could go ahead and open or being imperfect the plant may abort it.
