I have a wild rose bush growing next to a tree that I need to remove. The bush is growing through roots of the tree so cannot be dug out.
How can I kill this rose bush without damaging the tree?

You might consider two different approaches. Frequent pruning of the rose down to the ground starting a bud break until the food reserves are depleted and the rose dies. The second and this depends on what is allowed in Iowa is the use of a non selective translocatable herbicide that is SELECTIVELY APPLIED TO THE ROSE ONLY. Often time the best time is just before blooming where reserves are at their lowest.
