Black Walnut tree planting

I'm a landscape designer who has a client that just removed 2 black walnut trees from a garden bed. Through the years we have planted shrubs/flower/grasses on the list that can handle the juglens from the black walnut with half success. Now that these 2 trees are gone how safe is it to plant something not on the list? Does this stay in the soil for years?

Research suggests Juglone can last about two years in the soil after trees have been removed. Some research is suggesting that trees that have been stressed give off more. A simple bio assay would be to plant tomatoes, being very sensitive they would be a good indicator.
