I planted 6 arborvitae trees last spring, that where dump for me I ft trees. I planted them , and as advised watered them with 5gallons each of water, for 3 months, due to drought I had to cut back on the amount of water. The trees started to turn brown but had green throughout. This spring the tops are green and it appears to have green coming out on the branches., can you tell me am I loosing these trees or can they be saved , and how? Susan

It sounds like they have not established yet and suffered some needle dieback over the winter. Any brown needles will likely fall off eventually and new needles will cover up the bare interior. These young plants will continue to be watered regularly untill they have completely established themselves. Suggest you c ontact your local Extension office for a more focused, local response.
