interior is cluttered with fallen needles up to 5" thick caught in the crotches of branches. should I clean out my [ca. 100] plants?

All evergreens lose some interior needles every year, contributing to the needle mulch below the plant and this is normal. There is no harm in carefully removing those needles caught in the canopy and adding them to the needle mulch below.
