Have lost two 30 ft white pines, one last late fall and one in the last two weeks, to subject borers of some kind. Am removing them asap. Would appreciate any information regarding specific treatment to preclude spread to and loss of the one healthy sister pine. Each of these trees are separated by approximately 40 feet... Your assistance or referral to an experienced arborist would be greatly appreciated!

Evergreens of all kinds have been impacted by insects and disease since the drought of 2012. Plants that are stressed are attractive to insects and more prone to contract diseases. Remaining Pines should be closely inspected for insect infestations by a certified local arborist. they can use either topical or systemic products depending on the life stage of the boring insects. Culturally you can water the pines regularly, long before we have a declared drought. Fertilize each spring (something an arborist can do too). By encouraging good growth and healthy plants, the pines will be able to resist insect damage much better.
