I need to remove a vegetable garden and plant grass seed. When is the best time to plant grass seed and what seed variety do you recommend for Naperville/Aurora? Thank you

You are right in the window now, Mid August through first week in September. Cool Season grasses are preferred for our area. Bluegrasses, Perennial Rye and fine fescues if you have shade. A bluegrass/P. rye mix is not uncommon. an old garden should make a great seedbed.
