I have read about 2 ways to protect Emerald Green shrubs from winter burn.

1 - Wrap the evergreen shrub in burlap 2 -Build a mini-wall on the south and southwest facing sides by staking burlap to the ground but without touching the shrub.

Which is the best way? Thank you!

the mini walls work pretty well for smaller spreading arbs. Larger upright types will benefit from wrapping loosely. Both allow some air movement and prevent most of the direct sunlight from reaching the needles. Mini wall supports are typically a 2X2 driven deep enough into the soil to support the burlap against strong winds. Sometimes a 1x2 is also used across the tops of the 2X2s for additional structural support.
