We planted 5 Emerald Green Arborvitae last fall. During the winter, rabbits vested on the bottom before we noticed and could try to protect with fencing. One is completely dead, 3 are mostly brown with tops totally brown, 1 is 25% brown. Is the damage the rabbits did the cause of the amount of browning on these scrubs. Thank you!

While the rabbits fed and damaged the Arborvitae, very likely it was a combination of late season planting and the severe winter temperatures that truly damaged your evergreens. if ;there is a warranty involved, contact the retailer where you purchased them. Winter desiccation of needles comes first, then the continued die-back of twigs and stems to the main trunks. A limited root system makes the desiccation worse. I would suspect that the remaining evergreens will not perform adequately this summer and the heat of the summer will cause further decline.
