Burning bush

My burning bush did not come back this year, it is over 35 years old and has come back every year, in the middle of the branch’s there are round holes that go all along the branch to the trunk , is that normal or has something bored into it, each branch has this

You may have had some boring insect involved here, but more likely our severe winter temperatures and wind was the cause. Just about every species of shrubs and trees have suffered in various stages, from complete kill to lessor damage. species, age, siting, overall long term care are factors. If you have pictures of the damage, use my email above and I will take a look.
