Heirloom seed

My library started a "Seed Library" (Heirloom seeds) this year. We had some seeds left over. 1. Can those seeds be saved and given out for next year? 2. If yes, what is the best way to store them until then?

A general rule is the smaller the seed, the shorter the storage period. The longer they are stored the germination percentage decreases. Store in tightly sealed containers in the refrigerator. if you can locate those moisture removal packets (to prevent molds, etc.) one per container. Many charts indicate any where from 1-5 years, depending on the seed.
