Redbud in a pot

My daughter was given an eastern redbud on Arbor Day. We are just beginning relandscaping the backyard, where we plan to plant the tree permanently. Meanwhile it’s in a pot and growing well. Can I leave it in the pot outside until next year, when we can plant it in the ground? If not, what’s the best way to care for it until we can plant it? Thank you.

In your climate, suggest healing the redbud in this fall if you are not able to plant it. Dig a hole and set the whole thing in, pot and all. Remember to keep it watered well into the late fall. leave it there until next spring and plant it permanently then
