What is the fungus that grows on cocoa bean mulch, and is it harmful to woody plants?

Decomposing cocoa bean mulch will host many different kinds of decay fungi. They do not have the ability to invade healthy tissue. That said, if there is a wound or a natural opening on a an otherwise healthy plant, it could be invaded by a fungal organism, yet not those typically breaking down cocoa bean mulch. Seek out additional local information from your local Extension Service for a more focus response.
