Hi, I have a very young magnolia tree and its trunk was split during a storm! Can it be fixed? If so how do I fix it? It's a very young tree, about 5-6 ft tall and trunk is not very big yet. Do you think I can help it ? Thanks in advance, Jacqueline

Hello: Sadly your magnolia has split at the soil line and follows into the ground and the crown of the tree. there is really no coming back from a split like this. You can go up farther into the canopy and pull the split back together and some of the wound may actually heal. The portion going into the soil will decay from soil organisms and eventually cause enough rot to cause it to completely fall over if it does not die from this split in the next short few years. Sorry for the unhappy news. Richard
