The lilies have bloomed and now the leaves are yellow. The stems feel almost hollow and not firm, as when I purchased them. What is wrong?

Lilies like tulips tend to die back after they have made enough food for a new bulb. This is natural. but should take time - weeks. However if over watering or drowning from poor drainage or too much rain should occur, the bulb will rot, the top of the plant will yellow, soften and die.
