Hydrageas bloom on the growth they produce in the spring. If any pruning is done on this new growth before they bloom, the flower buds are removed. In addition if the plants are over fertilized with either organic or inorganic fertilizer, they will not bloom. Fertilizer stimulates vegetavive growth and prevents the plants from blooming. Suggest you not fertilize even with miracid for two years to see if the plant was receiving too much fertilizer either naturally or by your fertiling. Also roots of woody plants tend to spread as far as the plant is tall. Therefore if the plant is close to a fertilzed lawn, the hydragea will get some of the lawn fertilizer every time you feed the lawn. You need to skip the fertilzer on the lawn area within the hydragea root system.
