I have a small Japanese Maple which I'd like to prune/shape but am not sure what time of year this should be done. Please advise. Thank you.

this maple can be trimmed/pruned any time of the year, however during "bark slippage - when sap begins to flow in early spring - you have to be extra careful not to tear or damage the bark. If you would like to play it safe - wait till June to minimize bark damage and tearing.
