My neighbor gave me some bulbs that he had dug up out of his garden last fall. I have kept them in a dark cold place since then. when should i plant them and will they bloom, much less live? my mom is not so sure.

Try and save them till fall of 06. If you plant them now they will not bloom and they often do not root well, so you will get leaves that will use up the bulb. However since there are few roots, the bulb gets little new nurishment so no quality replacement bulb for next year. Store well and plant in September. Spring bulbs need to go through winter to flower.
