Hi - we're moving to Lexington, VA, this spring. Our new house has a great porch in the front and back. What sort of bushes would look good through all the seasons? I would love to have hydrangeas, but they don't look very good in the winter. Azaleas my only choice?? Thanks for your help.

Azaleas and Rhododendrons do very well in Virginia especially in shade. Some hydrageas are nice in the winter - the dead flower adds a winter interest. Consider some of the viburnums and dogwoods, potentila, St Johnswort, spireas and so on.
