Can this be trimmed or cut down after it blooms? The top is still green with leaves but the bottom is dead looking. This is my first year with a clematis and I would like it to come back next year.

Do not know which kind of clematis you have. The Himalayan clematis montana stems should be shortened or removed once they have finished flowering to encourage new shoots which will have next years flower buds on them. Many other clematis are pruned in early spring. Check with the company you bought the clematis from for the type of clematis you have and when to prune it for best flowering and to maintain the plants health.
