What's the proper way to plant a serviceberry tree? Should part of the root ball be above ground level or should it be level with the ground?

Twenty years ago it was level but since many nurseries now throw soil against the trunk when disking weeds and leave the soil when they B&B a plant, it is recommended that at least three inches of the ball stick out of the ground.
