Peach tree growths

I have a Dwarf Peach tree that was in a 12" pot when I received it 2 years agp. This year several sprouts have come up from the roots about 1-2" away from the main tree trunk. The leaves on these sprouts are a deep red and are growing fairly rapidly. I cut a couple down but others are coming up. Why are there red leaves on these sprouts, and will the sprouts hinder the growth of the peach tree itself?

Some times fruit trees are grafted onto related plants to dwarf them in size. Frequently the root stock of grafted trees send up sucker shoots. It is recommend you keep them cut off. It is wild undesireable growth. Sometimes these sucker shoots reduce yield or cause other problems. They seldom ever produce desireable fruit.
