I am thinking of putting a bunch of native prairie plants right next to my house. Is there any reason why this might be a bad idea? Root system interfering with the foundation, or some other reason I can't think of? Thank you very much!

Native plants can be incorportated into a foundation planting with good effect. I am not aware that those root systems would have any impact on a modern home foundation. Recognize natives like other foundation plants grow in size and evolve. Be sure you provide adequate growing space.
