Can you help me with aphids on my two honeysuckle vines? I had them last year and was told to spray them with a jet of water. That seemed to make the leaves fall off. They are back this year and the vines have a lot of dead wood. Is there anything that can be done?

Water sprays with a forceful stream typically do dislodge aphids. In cases where foliage is distorted aphids can be protected and remain. Predator insects like lady bugs could be released once the aphid population is large enough to sustain them. Insecticidal soaps with repeated applications can be used. Products containing malathion will also be effective.
