Japanese Beetles

Howdie, A couple years back we moved to the country and I planted the fruit trees I've always wanted. Unfortunately the Japanese Beetles are completely having their way with my trees (Apple, Cherry, Peach, etc.) Last year I hand picked every morning for weeks. I probably dumped about 1,500+ beetles into soapy water. With more than 15 trees this is not sustainable. So, I am hoping for some advice on what I can use to spray the trees that will not make the fruit dangerous to eat. I know there are plenty of Orchards in the area... they have to be using something. Hoping for recommendations. Thank you very much! -Chris

You should see a few days relief following you cover sprays if the active ingredients control Japanese beetles along with the insects that damage your fruits.. On your higher value trees (peach, Cherry) netting may be an alternative. Most home orchard sprays contain at least one active ingredient good for beetles. Such chemical names as permethrin, bifenthrin or carbaryl will work. Remember to follw the Pre harvest interval information on any product you use.
