Hello! I was given a Chicago Hardy fig tree earlier this year. I planted it in my back yard, in Naperville, and was wondering if someone had any tips on how to assure it lives through the winter to bear delicious fruit again next year? Thank you!

Chicago Hardy fig is supposed to bloom on both current years wood. There can be tip die back in harsh winters. Roots are supposed to be hardier than the branches. One tried and true method is the one used on semi hardy plant like climbing roses. Gently dig up the roots on one side and slowly bend the plant over and cover with soil protecting the trunk and branches. a coupe of links provide addtional information: http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.org/PlantFinder/PlantFinderDetails.aspx?taxonid=364291 and https://www.starkbros.com/products/fruit-trees/fig-trees/chicago-hardy-fig
