I am a dairy nutritionist and work with a dairy near Newark, IL that has an infestation of starlings since it has gotten colder. They enter his freestall barn, consume feed out of the feed bunk, leave droppings in the feed and all over the cows. It is an older barn and virtually impossible to close tight enough to keep them out. From past experience most of the "friendly" devices are not a viable solution to the problem. Too many to trap. At one time there was a control program available involving poison grain. Is that still available in IL. Any other suggestions? This is just going to get worse as the winter progress.
