Dead owl

I found a large dead owl in my yard. It had recently been hit by a car. I live on a two-lane highway and animal-car collisions happen quite frequently. Is it possible to have it stuffed and mounted or what should I do to legally dispose of it? I want to stay within the law.

You could request a salvage permit from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources to have the bird stuffed and mounted. However, you would not be able to keep the mount yourself. It would need to be donated to an educational facility. Otherwise the bird can be buried. The site should not be near any sources of water. Make sure there are no buried utility lines in the area before you dig.
