I am seeing grey squirrels with yellow tails here in Belvidere and in Thompson Illinois. Is this ciondition normal?

Yes, this is normal. Eastern gray squirrels come in many shades. Some are completely white or black. Others have a rusty appearance to their otherwise gray fur. Some have tails and/or undersides with a yellowish or reddish cast.
