I found a light blueish colored snake in stuck on a glue board. it is approx. 4 to 5 ft. long with a small head and a narrow body. I used mineral oil to free it from the glue board. My question is; what species of snake is this and do you thiink it will survive after the trauma of being stuck on a glue board. Thank you. Sincerely, Jeff

The Illinois Natural History Survey has a great website that helps to identify snakes in Illinois. You can find it at: http://www.inhs.illinois.edu/animals_plants/herps/ilspecies.html

My guess is that it was probably an eastern racer. But the photos on the website should help you make a positive ID.

As long as there was no obvious trauma, the snake should be fine.
