Female deer leave their fawns "unattended" for hours at a time; coming back occasionally to nurse. This is done so that they do not attract predators to the fawn. The doe is usually nearby, but is typically not seen by people. Unfortunately, this strategy works well against predators, but not around people. Well-meaning people who find these "orphaned" fawns sometimes remove them from their natural habitat. This is not good for the fawn. If the fawn is showing signs of illness then this is already a very serious situation for the fawn. It needs to be taken to a licensed wildlife rehabilitator trained to handle deer. And it needs to be taken right away. I will e-mail you a list of rehabilitators that work in Georgia.
