Feral (wild) hogs are not a protected species in Illinois. Therefore, no regulated hunting season exists to limit their harvest. As such, a hunting license is not required to take them, nor is an outfitter license required for prospective outfitters. However, landowner permission is required where any feral hog hunting is taking place. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources does not condone the release of hogs for this, or any other activity. Wild hogs can be incredibly destructive and can have serious negative impacts on natural habitats and agricultural crops.
