Snake Identification

We saw a nice sized snake this morning while walking our dogs along hurricane creek. It did not seem aggressive, but rather moved away from our dogs when they obliviously ran by it. Fortunatly I had my camera with me and got some great photos and can send them on if you tell me how. We would be very interested in knowing what kind of snake it is. It is kind of grey colored with what look like brown saddle shapes outlined in black on it. It does not have a rattle of any kind. Thank you!

If you e-mail me the pictures I can help you ID the snake. lasimmon@illinois.edu

The Illinois Natural History Survey also has a great website devoted to reptile ID. It has photos of all of the snakes native to Illinois. The website is: http://www.inhs.uiuc.edu/cbd/collections/amprep/ilspecies.html
