If a bat is removed from a dwelling, and relocated 5 mi. away, will that bat return to the dwelling?

If the opening that the bat used to access the dwelling is not sealed off, it might. If that particular bat finds another shelter, you'll probably still have new bats that find their way into the building if the opening is not found and sealed. A permit is needed to trap and remove bats. When dealing with bats, it is best to hire a licensed nuisance wildlife control operator. An Illinois Department of Natural Resources district wildlife biologist can provide good advice on how to deal with bats. You can find NWCOs and IDNR biologists on the "Find a Professional" page of this website. If you have more questions you can also e-mail me.
