brown mammal with long hairless tail

I work in Beecher close to a highway and on Monday an animal appeared. We are approximately 1/2 mile from a small creek with not much water in it. This animal was brown, large almost 1 foot long not including the tail, it had a long hairless tail, not extremely skinny but not think either. It had a taller back and thicker hair. Please let me know what you think it might be.

The animal is a muskrat (Ondatra zibethicus).
