There are about 100 mallard ducks nesting on a soccer/rugby field. My concern is that tomorrow there will be people playing on the field. The eggs are vulnerable. Is there anything that can be done to protect the birds and their eggs? I have notified public safety at COD as the land is property of the college. I told them that the ducks are protected, but do not know if anything will be done to protect the ducks.

Given the quick turn-around time on this, I'm not sure what can be done to protect the nests. You are correct that the ducks and their nests are protected by federal and state laws. My advice would be to call your local Illinois Department of Natural Resources Conservation Police Office to ask for their advice on how to handle this situation. You can find the number on the 'Find a Professional' page on this website. Good luck!
