Removing raccoons from peoples property. Is there a limit on how far you can take them to be released. I was under the impression you can't trap raccoons if they are not causing a problem and if you do, you have to release them within 100 '

Unless the raccoon is causing property damage or is a public health concern it is illegal to trap and remove the animal without a permit from an Illinois Department of Natural Resources district wildlife biologist.

By law, raccoons in Illinois must either be: 1) released on the same property within 100 yards of where the animal was captured, 2) surrendered to a licensed veterinarian who is a licensed wildlife rehabilitator, or 3) humanely euthanized. The biologist issuing the permit will determine the appropriate outcome for each case.
