I saw a large bird near a pond on Black road in west Joliet. It had an orange-red head and black feathers on the rest of its lower body. Do you know what it is?

Turkey vultures have red heads and black feathers. It is possible that an animal died near the pond and the vulture was scavenging the carcass.
