My friend says that porcupines live in Illinois, I say they do not. He also says he saw a dead one on the side of the road near Purdue University in Indiana which is not far from eastern Illinois. Who is right?

Porcupines are not native to Illinois. They are found much further north. You can learn more about porcupines at: http://animals.nationalgeographic.com/animals/mammals/porcupine.html

The range map does show them in a part of IL actually. Isolated population.
